Lost & Found Akitas

If you have lost or found an Akita, you should first contact the local animal shelters, humane societies, rescue groups, vet offices, pet stores, dog parks and grooming salons in your area (or the surrounding areas where the Akita was last seen).

If the Akita is not wearing any identification tags, you can try taking the Akita to a vet office, animal shelter or humane society that has a microchip scanner to see if the Akita has a microchip containing his owner's contact information. They also may be able to check if the Akita has any identification stamps or markings on the underside or inside leg region of its body.

You can also place information flyers locally in the area where your Akita was last seen and on the internet
for more coverage.

Found in Elk Grove, California
June 13, 2010

Here's the information received from the person that found this Akita:

"We just found this handsome akita, if it is an akita, at sitting at our front yard today. He seemed to have a bad gait as if he had been injured; palpated his whole body no wincing noted. No collar. Gets along with my four dogs. Really friendly and mellow. Follows some commands too. I have called our the county shelter, but due to cutbacks are going to be closed tomorrow, Monday and Tuesday. I will I also take him to Banfield to be scanned. Have posted posters around the neighborhood - no reply yet. Fingers crossed."

If you recognize this Akita and/or may know where his home is, please send email to: info@tikihutakitarescue.com. Thanks!

Molly - Lost in Aptos, California
January 29, 2010

Lost Beautiful grey Akita - Flume Road, Aptos, California
Date: 2010-01-29

Hi... we just lost our beautiful 9 year old, 80 pound, female Akita.

'Molly' was with us on the trail at the top of Flume Road when we decided to let her off the leash for just a second... well she got excited and ran a little too far away and then freaked and got lost. Molly is a complete house dog and is probably freaking out right now. She looks scary but loves people... she'll come to a female calling her. She is a little afraid of men.

She is grayish white, kinda wolfish with real tall legs. She is wearing a purple collar with our phone number on it (702-496-1976).

Thanks so much,

Marty and Laurie

Bay - Lost in Berkeley, California
December 14, 2009

Bay is a 9-year old, female Akita that wandered away from her home in Berkeley, California on December 14, 2009. She is very friendly to people, but somewhat aggressive to animals, particularly female dogs. She has white socks on her feet/legs in front and is otherwise brown and white with black ears and nose (with some gray). Her right knee just went out and is scheduled to be fixed next month, so she limps when she walks.

Please call Dara at (510) 642-3264 if you have seen her. Thank you!
