WAITING FOR NEW HOMES

COURTESY LISTINGS:

Please note, courtesy listings are to help assist direct placements of rescues that are currently with other rescue groups, shelters or their current owners. TARA has no affiliation with the placement of these dogs, nor do we have any knowledge of or guarantee their temperament, training, socialization or health condition. By using this listing, the adopting party releases TARA from any and all liability arising out of or in any way connected with the adoption of the pet listed.

Stark

Stark was recently surrendered to us by a loving family. He's hoping to find a new loving family that's familiar with Akitas.

For an American Akita, Stark is on the small side weighing in at about 97 pounds. In his previous home, Stark lived with a small dog (Shiba Inu) and two middle-school-aged kids.

He's a typical Akita: Playful, loving and loyal with the people in his household — less so with strangers, especially when they visit his property. Luckily, his previous home used positive reinforcement training, so Stark starts to like houseguests within a day or two. To be fair, that's what his ancestors were bred for.

If you're not familiar with American Akita's we strongly recommend doing some research before coming to meet Stark. If you have other dogs in your home, we'd also appreciate you bringing them to meet him prior to adoption. Stark would do best in a home with kids 13 and older.

Duchess

Duchess, ID # D21-096, was found and brought to the shelter on 9/26/2021and she is looking for a new loving home.

Duchess is a friendly, quiet, playful, affectionate, smart, spayed and micro-chipped female Akita Mix and she is a little over a year old.

She is black and white, sweet-tempered and she has been seen by our veterinarian to assess the injuries she had when she came to us. It appears she had a broken leg at some point but evidently didn't get care for it and it healed incorrectly, leaving her with a strange walking and running gait. Our vet assures us that it is healed and that Duchess isn't in pain from it.

Now that she's feeling better, she is a happy girl, enjoying the play yard when it's her turn to be out there, running around. Duchess would do best in a home with calm, patient adults and young children should be avoided.

Since she's already spayed and chipped, her fee is only $30 for our special adoption rate.

If you'd like to meet Duchess, please call the Escalon Animal Shelter at 209-838-9908 or send email to escalonshelter@yahoo.com to make an appointment to meet her.

Chocolate Bear - Adopted!

Chocolate Bear is a mixed Akita that was originally found at North Natomas Heritage Park gated community, at Rockaway Lane and Ingleton Lane.

We think he is about 5 years old and is not neutered. He had no collar and could not find a microchip. He is pretty scruffy and might have been out on the street for awhile.

He is a sweet dog and would love to see him adopted or at least in a foster home.

He stayed with the nice people that found him for two nights and then was taken to:

City of Sacramento Animal Care Services

2127 Front Street, Sacramento, CA  95818

916-808-7387

His Animal ID # is: A631484 and he is located in Kennel 116

Please contact the shelter as soon as possible if you would like to give him a new home.

Kobi

Kobi is approximately a year and a half old. His name should be Marshmallow as this guy is a big cuddle bug who wants nothing more than to be near you for snuggles and affection! To know him is to love him!

While he’s an active boy and enjoys adventure, what he really loves is being close to his human and having his belly rubbed, but it’s not all about him. He’s an equal opportunity lover and is happy showering you with love in return. You don’t need to say a word, just make eye contact with him and his eyes soften, his whole face lights up and his tail wags like a rudder! His joy is contagious!

Kobi has been through basic training at Dairy Dell in Petaluma, but will need some refreshers as it’s been awhile since he graduated.

Kobi’s regularly introduced to multiple dogs in our rescue organization on our pack walks and has been social and happy-go-lucky with all of the dogs he’s met.

He would benefit from someone who understands the needs of a young pup and has the time to commit to ensure he continues getting socialization, training and exposure to as many new situations as possible. He is an incredible boy with a stellar temperament. However, no homes with kitties!

Hiro

Hiro appears to be an Akita and German Shepherd Mix and he is absolutely wonderful! We are not sure of his breed for sure, but he is a big fluffy sweet boy! He appears to get along with other dogs and is a talker and loves people. He has been with us since July 4th.

Hiro is available for general adoption and we advise any potential adopters to consult with their veterinarians to determine what type of treatment they will need to do prior to committing to adopting (Hiro has tested as high antigen heartworm positive).
