Acuna in Sacramento, California - URGENT!!!
We currently have an Akita girl that is considered urgent and needs adoption or rescue commitment by 4/10/24 at 3pm.
Here is her urgent plea:
Fluffy Acuna (A854959) is such a people motivated Akita! This curly tailed gal is around 4-years old, walks great on leash although she gets excited to see her human friends and gets a little jumpy.
While Acuna is enamored with people, she is not dog social and does not get along with other dogs. Toys aren’t quite her thing either because she is more focused on doing zig-zag zoomies! Once she settles, she leans in for attention and pets. Acuna needs a home where she is the one and only diva dog.
Check her out in the video here:

Kanoa
Kanoa is simply a great dog! He’s a 1.5-year old, friendly, playful, and very energetic young Akita.
He likes people and appears friendly toward dogs when passing them on leash. He also walks very politely on leash and likely wouldn’t mind running, too, if his human companion was so inclined.
Everything about Kanoa suggests that he has lived in a home before and will make his lucky new family very happy. He appears house-trained and is definitely ready to get out of the kennel and into a home again. Come see if you’d like to take Kanoa home with you!

Luna - Adopted!
Meet Luna, a 6-year old, purebred, all white Akita!
She is super intelligent, walks well on a leash and quite protective of her family. She is currently looking for a new family due to her owner passing away.
She loves to play with her stuffed animals and do her daily zoomies around the yard and house! She's not a big barker, but will alert you when she hears the door bell or a knock. She's fine if left alone for short periods of time and not destructive. This sweet girl just wants a family or person to love and share her life!
Though it is preferred that she be the one and only dog in the family, she does get along with her neighbor's dog who is a large, submissive male. Because of her breed, Luna should not be around cats and small dogs.
Luna is good with well-mannered kids, but the children should be over 9-years of age due to her size. Her new owners should be experienced dog owners and be familiar with the Akita breed traits and behaviors, as well as reside in a home with securely-fenced yard.
—> If you are interested in providing a new home for Luna, please send an adoption application to:

Tobi
We don't know much about Tobi's past, but his future is bright. He is a big boy with a heart the size to match. He is a gentle giant with a gregarious, carefree attitude and is eager to learn and experience the world. He is game for adventure and deserves to have that special someone to accompany him in life.
Tobi is playful and has a welcoming aura about him. He also has an unabashed, confident side to him. He's just not sure how he ended up here, and we're making sure he never has to wonder that ever again.
He is best as an only dog and someone with previous Akita experience is best.
Tobi is approximately 5 yrs old, and due to his size should be on a good quality joint supplement. He's only been with us a short time, so will need to gain a few pounds to look his best, but he's already on his way to showing us his beautiful soul.

Emi
Emi’s sleek, brindle coat is a thing of beauty and so magnificent to behold.
Engaging, charismatic, gregarious, and spirited are the first things you sense about her from the moment she enters a room. Emi exudes a brand of joy that makes her impossible to resist!
Not until you witness her graceful elegance and see a bit of frost around her muzzle, do you realize she is a senior beauty with an abundance of life experiences to share.
She’s 8 yrs old and has found herself homeless, but she’s seen enough in life to know there’s still a wonderous journey ahead.
She is a lover of people and she’d much rather be enjoying a fun adventure with you by her side on interesting walks or trips to the beach, than be left at home alone. She needs to be an only dog and is not suitable with cats.
She is approximately 60 lbs. and seems unaware she has some arthritis and hip dysplasia. But as you can see, she enjoys playing with her toys and doing tricks for treats. Her healthy curiosity keeps her engaged in life’s adventures, though she also loves her beauty naps.
Please don’t let her age deter you from considering giving her a home. Her heart is overflowing with love.
If you are interested in Emi, please complete our adoption application in the link below.

Ponyo - Special Needs (please inquire for more information)
What kind of person drops off their beloved family member at a boarding facility, says they’ll be back in two days and is never seen or heard from again? After multiple attempts, the staff finally reached the owners. Their response was they were not coming back for him.
Imagine you are Ponyo, waiting day after day, and one day becomes two, then two days becomes a week and then a month. At what point do dogs give up hope? Akitas are known for their fierce loyalty and devotion. Sadly, in this instance his loyalty was rewarded with betrayal.
Thankfully, Ponyo is resilient and his joy of freedom overshadowed his despair. He’s 4-years old and is a happy, fun-loving boy! He is best as an only dog and requires an experienced Akita owner.
Ponyo is settling in and is getting plenty of attention, interaction and enrichment.
Stay tuned for updates.

Rookie

Hiromi
Hiromi was turned into the shelter as a found dog. No one ever came for her. Despite being failed by her former person, this sweetheart remains devoted and loving.
After Hiromi’s arrival she was initially timid and lacked confidence. She can still be somewhat apprehensive but in less than 10 days, she has opened up and trusted us enough to let her true colors shine! She is silly, sensitive, refreshingly affectionate, playful and a free spirit.
Her absolute favorite past time is to be showered with love and give it in return. Her gentle, resilient nature is inspiring but not surprising.
Hiromi is very communicative by expressing a multitude of emotions with her eyes. Her body language is inviting and she understands how to use it to subtly let you know what’s on her mind. She is also an Akita so stubbornness is part of her DNA!
Her ideal adopter should have a calm home environment and be able to provide consistency and a daily routine, where she can continue to expand her horizons.
Hiromi gets excited for her daily walks and is a great traveler! She greets people with ease as long as they approach with the same calm energy that she emits. She seems non-reactive to other dogs and might do well with a mellow male dog.
This gorgeous girl is approximately 4-years old and weighs 57 pounds. She is also crate and house trained.
She is ready to pledge her love and devotion! Are you?!

Toby
Toby is need of a new friend or family to get him out of the shelter. He was originally found lost and is microchipped, but his past owner has not come to get him after many attempts to get them to come get Toby.
He has been a very sweet boy and appears to be a young Huskita (Husky-Akita Mix). During his behavior evaluation he seemed to not be bothered by the male and a smaller, older female dog he was evaluated with.
Toby’s Animal ID is A184005

Dutch
Dutch is a Belgian Shepherd / Malinois Mix that is between 1 to 2-years old and weighs approximately 50-pounds.
He has no known prior or current health issues, is up to date on vaccinations, neutered, microchipped, house-trained, crate-trained, knows basic commands and knows to go to his crate when meal times are announced,.
He loves all people and kids, gets along with all dogs (all ages, breed, size and gender).
He currently lives with eight other dogs, but one in particular, a male Malamute that normally does not get along with other males — this Malamute gets along with Dutch. Dutch has a great demeanor and very patient with all dogs off leash.
He is super sweet, smart, very treat motivated, has herding tendencies. He needs a job, otherwise he looks for mischief if bored. He needs training and walking on leash as he tends to pull and is reactive to other dogs especially if they react back.
He would do wonderful with an active family, runner or someone that understands the breed.

Simon
Hi! My name is Simon.
The shelter thinks I am around 3 years old.
I am a medium to high energy Akita mix with gorgeous markings and a great voice! I LOVE playing with balls in the play yard. As a matter of fact, you don’t even need to toss the ball to me, I will just grab it, toss it in the air and entertain myself!
You can see me in action here: https://youtube.com/shorts/pm2IkJ4sYIU
The volunteers are very confident that I am housebroken. I am kind of a big puppy, but with some manners. I know how to “sit” and walk well on leash.
I am required to be the only dog based on my initial assessment. I am also recommended to be in a home with high school-aged kids or older. I would be an ideal dog for a family with older kids and someone with space for me to romp around! And don’t forget that I am house trained and have lovely manners. I am also super handsome and love giving doggie hugs and getting affection!

Pearl
At the Placer SPCA in Roseville, California, we have a 5-year old, white female Akita up for adoption. Her name is Pearl and she is very sweet and loves to play. She was surrendered to us when her family had to move into an apartment and she did not meet the weight requirement.
We think she would do best in an Akita-experienced home where she can be the only dog as she has not been friendly with the dogs she has met, though she was in a home with another Akita when she was younger as well as a small dog. She also does not like her feet touched and has some resource guarding with treats. She has great manners and is easy to walk.
