MilesWhile this big boy is new to us and we are getting acquainted, there are some things that are obvious from the get go.
He and his female Shepherd companion found their way into an auto body shop seeking shelter and a cool place in the shade, which they found when they crawled under an old RV. By the looks of them, it seems they had been on their own for awhile.
Animal control picked them up, although it wasn't clear if they were picked up together or if they'd become separated at some point. We can only hope she was adopted.
Miles has settled nicely into the kennel and is now looking healthy and absolutely stunning! He's a big boy with a gentle nature and a very playful side. He loves attention and will give kisses and offer play bows. He also possesses typical Akita stubbornness and an independent nature.
He will require a breed savvy owner, no exceptions.
Miles currently weighs about 75 pounds and probably can put on another pound or two. We think he is approximately 5 to 6 years old.
Stay tuned for more info!

HiromiHiromi was turned into the shelter as a found dog. No one ever came for her. Despite being failed by her former person, this sweetheart remains devoted and loving.
After Hiromi’s arrival she was initially timid and lacked confidence. She can still be somewhat apprehensive but in less than 10 days, she has opened up and trusted us enough to let her true colors shine! She is silly, sensitive, refreshingly affectionate, playful and a free spirit.
Her absolute favorite past time is to be showered with love and give it in return. Her gentle, resilient nature is inspiring but not surprising.
Hiromi is very communicative by expressing a multitude of emotions with her eyes. Her body language is inviting and she understands how to use it to subtly let you know what’s on her mind. She is also an Akita so stubbornness is part of her DNA!
Her ideal adopter should have a calm home environment and be able to provide consistency and a daily routine, where she can continue to expand her horizons.
Hiromi gets excited for her daily walks and is a great traveler! She greets people with ease as long as they approach with the same calm energy that she emits. She seems non-reactive to other dogs and might do well with a mellow male dog.
This gorgeous girl is approximately 4-years old and weighs 57 pounds. She is also crate and house trained.
She is ready to pledge her love and devotion! Are you?!

TobyToby is need of a new friend or family to get him out of the shelter. He was originally found lost and is microchipped, but his past owner has not come to get him after many attempts to get them to come get Toby.
He has been a very sweet boy and appears to be a young Huskita (Husky-Akita Mix). During his behavior evaluation he seemed to not be bothered by the male and a smaller, older female dog he was evaluated with.
Toby’s Animal ID is A184005

DutchDutch is a Belgian Shepherd / Malinois Mix that is between 1 to 2-years old and weighs approximately 50-pounds.
He has no known prior or current health issues, is up to date on vaccinations, neutered, microchipped, house-trained, crate-trained, knows basic commands and knows to go to his crate when meal times are announced,.
He loves all people and kids, gets along with all dogs (all ages, breed, size and gender).
He currently lives with eight other dogs, but one in particular, a male Malamute that normally does not get along with other males — this Malamute gets along with Dutch. Dutch has a great demeanor and very patient with all dogs off leash.
He is super sweet, smart, very treat motivated, has herding tendencies. He needs a job, otherwise he looks for mischief if bored. He needs training and walking on leash as he tends to pull and is reactive to other dogs especially if they react back.
He would do wonderful with an active family, runner or someone that understands the breed.

Tank
Hello!
My name is Tank and I am a two-years old, 106-pound, neutered male Akita Mix dog looking for a forever home. I am a bit anxious when introduced to new places and would like to be allowed to take my time to adjust. I am treat motivated and love to get pets. I have a lot strength and can be tough to walk if my person is not used to walking big guys like me.
I would greatly benefit from being the only dog in the household due to me not being the most social when it comes to meeting other dogs. I need a human to match my high energy because I love to play and run around.
On the flip side, I am very affectionate and will long for your attention. If I sound like the perfect dog for your household, then please come in to the shelter to get more information about my history and personality. I look forward to meeting with you!

Simon
Hi! My name is Simon.
The shelter thinks I am around 3 years old.
I am a medium to high energy Akita mix with gorgeous markings and a great voice! I LOVE playing with balls in the play yard. As a matter of fact, you don’t even need to toss the ball to me, I will just grab it, toss it in the air and entertain myself!
You can see me in action here: https://youtube.com/shorts/pm2IkJ4sYIU
The volunteers are very confident that I am housebroken. I am kind of a big puppy, but with some manners. I know how to “sit” and walk well on leash.
I am required to be the only dog based on my initial assessment. I am also recommended to be in a home with high school-aged kids or older. I would be an ideal dog for a family with older kids and someone with space for me to romp around! And don’t forget that I am house trained and have lovely manners. I am also super handsome and love giving doggie hugs and getting affection!

Pearl
At the Placer SPCA in Roseville, California, we have a 5-year old, white female Akita up for adoption. Her name is Pearl and she is very sweet and loves to play. She was surrendered to us when her family had to move into an apartment and she did not meet the weight requirement.
We think she would do best in an Akita-experienced home where she can be the only dog as she has not been friendly with the dogs she has met, though she was in a home with another Akita when she was younger as well as a small dog. She also does not like her feet touched and has some resource guarding with treats. She has great manners and is easy to walk.

Luna
Luna AO55296 – Spayed female Akita, approximately 7-years old, 67 pounds
Abandoned by her owner.
Luna is very affectionate with everyone she meets and is a volunteer favorite!
She has nice leash manners and is attentive as she enjoys exploratory walks.
Luna may be housebroken since she keeps her kennel clean. She is quiet in her kennel even though most dogs are barking.
Luna likes other dogs and tested well with males and females, large and small.
