Simon
Hi! My name is Simon.
The shelter thinks I am around 3 years old.
I am a medium to high energy Akita mix with gorgeous markings and a great voice! I LOVE playing with balls in the play yard. As a matter of fact, you don’t even need to toss the ball to me, I will just grab it, toss it in the air and entertain myself!
You can see me in action here: https://youtube.com/shorts/pm2IkJ4sYIU
The volunteers are very confident that I am housebroken. I am kind of a big puppy, but with some manners. I know how to “sit” and walk well on leash.
I am required to be the only dog based on my initial assessment. I am also recommended to be in a home with high school-aged kids or older. I would be an ideal dog for a family with older kids and someone with space for me to romp around! And don’t forget that I am house trained and have lovely manners. I am also super handsome and love giving doggie hugs and getting affection!

Pearl
At the Placer SPCA in Roseville, California, we have a 5-year old, white female Akita up for adoption. Her name is Pearl and she is very sweet and loves to play. She was surrendered to us when her family had to move into an apartment and she did not meet the weight requirement.
We think she would do best in an Akita-experienced home where she can be the only dog as she has not been friendly with the dogs she has met, though she was in a home with another Akita when she was younger as well as a small dog. She also does not like her feet touched and has some resource guarding with treats. She has great manners and is easy to walk.

Luna
Luna AO55296 – Spayed female Akita, approximately 7-years old, 67 pounds
Abandoned by her owner.
Luna is very affectionate with everyone she meets and is a volunteer favorite!
She has nice leash manners and is attentive as she enjoys exploratory walks.
Luna may be housebroken since she keeps her kennel clean. She is quiet in her kennel even though most dogs are barking.
Luna likes other dogs and tested well with males and females, large and small.

Scout — Adopted!
Scout (name given to her by her finders) is a nice, female Akita that was found as a lost stray in Moreno Valley, California. She weighs about 80-pounds, has brindle markings and has white fur on her chest and paws. She appears to be house trained, does not have any obedience training, but likes to give you her paw and her finders have been trying to teach her some basic obedience commands. She is a really good, energetic girl that likes to go on walks.
She is a bit wary of strangers, but has let some of them pet her when they let her smell them first. She has not met any cats, but Scout has behaved well around dogs or ignored them. She does bark if she sees strangers or hears strange noises around the house.
Scout has been taken to their vet who said that she looks healthy, but has no microchip for finding her owners. When she was found, she had a wound on her muzzle, but the vet says that it will heal and looks good. When she was taken to the vet, Scout also received her rabies, DHPP and bordetella vaccinations and a dewormer.
Her finders have tried to find her family, but have had no luck. They would love to keep her, but their family already has four dogs. If you recognize Scout and know where her family is or if you are able to provide a new home for Scout, please send email to info@tikihutakitarescue.com for more information.

Frida — URGENT!!!
HELP! EUTH LISTED FOR EOD 10/31/22 - 4 YR OLD, SPAYED, CHOW/AKITA GIRL IS AT RISK OF BEING KILLED FOR SPACE. WHO CAN HELP?
Frida - ID #A5444286
Lancaster Shelter
Lancaster, Southern California
Frida is on the euthanization list today. Please help us find a good home, foster and or rescue ASAP for this beautiful, smaller young lady listed as a 4-year old Akita who may also have some Chow in her (her tongue is partially black).
She was brought to the Lancaster shelter after her owner said they could no longer care for her. Initially, she was scared but has since warmed up to people in several videos we have and can share.
Frida has a luxurious coat and long, curly akita like tail. She can be pet all over and is said to be okay with calm dogs. We are begging the shelter not to euthanize her and give us more time but it is unclear if they will. She was said to be Rescue only due to being scared, so we are not sure if she can be adopted directly from the shelter or must be rescued.

ToraTora is a stunning, one-year old Japanese Akita imported from Argentina. He is located in Northern, California. Please have prior Akita experience to be considered. He is a striking red brindle, weighing 65 pounds. He’s young and playful and has some basic training under his belt, but is still learning.
Like all young Akitas, Tora will require consistency, ongoing training and plenty of socialization to become a well-rounded adult Akita. An experienced Akita home is required in order to give Tora the best chance at becoming a great ambassador for the breed.
He is a typical Akita in that he loves to be with his person and give affection; however, he is also very independent.
Tora will not be suitable in a home with children, small dogs or cats. He would be best as the only dog in the home due to some resource guarding with food around other dogs.
Tora has some mild separation anxiety so would excel in a home where someone is home or where he can see the world with you! Tora would love to have a backyard of his own and a doggie door so he can explore.
He would blossom with an active family that loves the outdoors, hiking and going on adventures. He even knows how to paddleboard! He also enjoys settling at your feet while you’re on the computer or watching TV.
Tora is not a Namaste Akita Rescue orphan, however we are assisting the owner with the application process. Tora is being placed directly by his current owner.
If you are interested in adopting Tora, please complete the adoption application at this page (https://www.namasteakitarescue.com/files/785363/nara-adoption-application-2019-rev.docx_)

While here with us, Ruff was introduced to another dog and has a playful play style.

Hyde and Maura
Sweet Bonded Sibling Akitas Need New Home
Hyde and Maura are gorgeous Akitas, brother and sister, who were recently rescued from a neglectful situation after Maura was found wandering the streets. Luckily, some kind people stepped in and rescued and reunited them both. They are approximately 8 years old and still have plenty of energy and love to take walks.
The siblings are bonded and we would prefer not to separate them. They want to sleep and cuddle together and it’s heartwarming to see how much they love and depend on each other.
They love to ride in a car; they are house trained; and they walk well on the leash. It is clear that no one has cared for them in a very long time, yet they are friendly and sweet.
They are currently being boarded at a vet and have not shown any sign of aggression either with humans or dogs. They are now up-to-date on their shots, chipped, spayed/neutered and the vet has treated their minor issues due to the neglect. Maura weighs approximately 75 pounds and Hyde is approximately 95 pounds.
Hyde and Maura really deserve a second shot at life in a home together. They are so sweet, smart and loving and are so excited to be back together.

Stark
Stark was recently surrendered to us by a loving family. He's hoping to find a new loving family that's familiar with Akitas.
For an American Akita, Stark is on the small side weighing in at about 97 pounds. In his previous home, Stark lived with a small dog (Shiba Inu) and two middle-school-aged kids.
He's a typical Akita: Playful, loving and loyal with the people in his household — less so with strangers, especially when they visit his property. Luckily, his previous home used positive reinforcement training, so Stark starts to like houseguests within a day or two. To be fair, that's what his ancestors were bred for.
If you're not familiar with American Akita's we strongly recommend doing some research before coming to meet Stark. If you have other dogs in your home, we'd also appreciate you bringing them to meet him prior to adoption. Stark would do best in a home with kids 13 and older.

Duchess
Duchess, ID # D21-096, was found and brought to the shelter on 9/26/2021and she is looking for a new loving home.
Duchess is a friendly, quiet, playful, affectionate, smart, spayed and micro-chipped female Akita Mix and she is a little over a year old.
She is black and white, sweet-tempered and she has been seen by our veterinarian to assess the injuries she had when she came to us. It appears she had a broken leg at some point but evidently didn't get care for it and it healed incorrectly, leaving her with a strange walking and running gait. Our vet assures us that it is healed and that Duchess isn't in pain from it.
Now that she's feeling better, she is a happy girl, enjoying the play yard when it's her turn to be out there, running around. Duchess would do best in a home with calm, patient adults and young children should be avoided.
Since she's already spayed and chipped, her fee is only $30 for our special adoption rate.
If you'd like to meet Duchess, please call the Escalon Animal Shelter at 209-838-9908 or send email to escalonshelter@yahoo.com to make an appointment to meet her.

Chocolate Bear - Adopted!
Chocolate Bear is a mixed Akita that was originally found at North Natomas Heritage Park gated community, at Rockaway Lane and Ingleton Lane.
We think he is about 5 years old and is not neutered. He had no collar and could not find a microchip. He is pretty scruffy and might have been out on the street for awhile.
He is a sweet dog and would love to see him adopted or at least in a foster home.
He stayed with the nice people that found him for two nights and then was taken to:

Hiro
Hiro appears to be an Akita and German Shepherd Mix and he is absolutely wonderful! We are not sure of his breed for sure, but he is a big fluffy sweet boy! He appears to get along with other dogs and is a talker and loves people. He has been with us since July 4th.
Hiro is available for general adoption and we advise any potential adopters to consult with their veterinarians to determine what type of treatment they will need to do prior to committing to adopting (Hiro has tested as high antigen heartworm positive).
